Setting Up Your Account
When renting/purchasing a home or business in Kindersley, it is up to the new occupant to set up a water account at the Town of Kindersley Administration Office, 106 5th Avenue East. A water meter deposit of $200 or more will be required at this time, depending on the size of the meter.
Water bills are mailed out every two months. Payment for a utility service is due upon receipt and is considered past due 30 days after the billing date.
Payment of your water utility bill can be made by cash, debit or night deposit (cheque) at the Kindersley Administrative Office, or online through your financial institution.
*Please note that it is ultimately the responsibility of the property owner to ensure that all utility accounts with the Town of Kindersley are kept up to date and in good standing. Rental property owners should be aware of this condition as terminated utility accounts with outstanding balances may be added to the tax roll with respect to the parcel to which the utility services were provided.
The Town of Kindersley depends on all water customers to ensure that their current phone number is on file with their water account.
In the event that a water leak is detected, the primary account holder needs to be contacted to have the line inspected. This can prevent you from having to pay more than you actually consume. The Town also requires that accounts are kept up to date in the event of a temporary disruption of service.
If you have recently changed your phone number or don’t know whether your account information is currently up to date, please contact the Kindersley Administration Office at 306-463-2675 and speak with the Utilities Department.
Kindersley homes and businesses are equipped with radio frequency water meters that monitor themselves every 15 minutes and can be read digitally from outside your property. This technology also documents water usage and allows us to detect leaks that are beyond just an increase in consumption. This information is archived in the meter for a period of 35 days.
The Town’s Utilities Department reviews water usage records when utility bills are prepared. This initiative is taken in order that we may notify customers when a leak is causing an increase in charges to their utility invoice.
Please note: Customers will be billed for all water that passes through a water meter. If a leak is detected and you are unable to find the cause, you may need to call a plumber.
Check the following sources for leaks:

|Underground sprinklers||Water softeners||Taps running to prevent freezing|
Leaks may not always be noticeable by dripping water but may be the result of a valve that is not entirely closed. Leaks often go undetected and can occur for months or even years before becoming noticeable.
To ensure your toilet isn’t running, place a few drops of food colouring in the tank at night. If any of the colour comes through the bowl by morning there may be seal that requires repair.
Re-Reads and Meter Tests
At the customer’s request, meters will be re-read, or customers can read their meters and call the number in to confirm an accurate reading was received.
Also at the customer request, a meter will be pulled and tested, and a new meter installed. If the meter tested is working properly, a charge of $125 will be billed.

Winter Water Meter Tips for Mobile Home Owners
As a mobile home occupant, there are some specific actions or considerations that you or the property owner should undertake during winter months. These will ensure that your water meter and pipe infrastructure remain in good use and free of incidents that may require repairs during colder months.
Here are some tips to make you more successful in prevent water maintenance this winter:
• Water pipes and meters should be heat taped and wrapped with insulation to prevent freezing. (Unlike in homes with permanent foundations, mobile home meters are exposed to outdoor temperatures underneath the structure.)
The best way to apply heat tape is to wrap the tape in a figure 8 pattern around the base of the meter. The heat tape should be applied starting where the line comes out of the ground up to the bottom of the home of your home.
• If there already is heat tape and insulation applied, check it in the fall and periodically over the winter months to ensure the heat tapeisworking
Effective heat tape should be soft or warm to the touch. If in doubt, replace it.
Please also note:
• If your water meter breaks due to freezing, the cost of replacing the meter is the responsibility of the homeowner or tenant.
• If a leak is detected, try to determine if it is the water meter or the piping causing the leak. If the issue is with pipes, seek advice from a plumber. It is the responsibility of the homeowner or tenant to ensure there are no leaks.
