Council adopted a new Animal Control Bylaw 03-18 at its Regular Meeting of Council on February 12, 2018. The Bylaw was given second reading and third reading (with an amendment to include a definition and clause for “service dogs”) before being subsequently adopted and put into effect.
The following are among the key distinguishing features of the proposed new bylaw:
- The format of the Bylaw has been updated to be structurally consistent with newer Town of Kindersley bylaws, as well as Provincial legislation.
- Definition and reference to 'Dangerous Animals' is consistent with that of Provincial legislation.
- Pet licence fees have been simplified and, specifically for dogs, are no longer based on weight of the animal. A separate fee is now referenced for animals that have a micro chip
- A late penalty fee is added, similar to the Traffic Bylaw.
