I’m proud to say that I was born and raised in the Kindersley area. I was born in the (then new) Kindersley hospital in 1967.
I lived on the farm at Mantario and took all my K-12 schooling in Eatonia. I attended Olds College after graduating from high school.
After completing my 2-year Petroleum Land Agent program, I found work in Regina as a land agent working for oil and gas operators and crown utilities. My final contract while in Regina was with TransCanada Pipelines.
When Karen and I became engaged, we knew Regina wasn’t the place for us as it was too far from home and family. I took a position in Saskatoon with SaskPower and Karen worked for the Page Credit Union. We had really good careers there but gave them up to move home.
We were expecting our first (of 3 children) when I started Palliser Land Ltd. (later Millennium Land & Grassland Environmental Inc.) as well as farming with my parents.
We have been proud residents and taxpayers of Kindersley ever since moving back actively contributing to the local community from both a business and volunteer perspective.
This community has been our family’s primary focus since moving back, to what we have always considered home.
My recent provincial government involvement (Kindersley MLA 2018 to present) was a very good learning experience. I had the good fortune of being placed on many important boards and committees like Treasury Board and several Cabinet Economy and Trade boards as a legislative secretary. I was also an advisor on several Energy and Resources and Agriculture files which of course is the heart of our economy here.
These experiences, along with the relationships made, are vital to effectively representing our community at the municipal level.
I look forward to picking up where I left off as Deputy Mayor in 2018. Our council in 2016 made some aggressive policy moves and started running this municipality more like a business. That needs to continue. So much has improved here in the last 8 years.
So much has been built, thanks in large part to all levels of government but especially the Town, the RM of Kindersley as well as the continued support of oil and gas companies and of course local businesses.
There is always so much more to do and I am committed to working with all levels of government, locally, provincially and federally to ensure this community has a bright future ahead of it.
Kindersley is the hub of our trade area. We need it to be business friendly, taxpayer friendly and financially healthy.
That is and will continue to be my focus as mayor.
