Council Highlights – March 14, 2022 Regular Meeting
Town Council held a Regular Meeting on Monday, March 14, 2022. The following agenda items were resolved.
7.1: The Council of the Town of Kindersley resolved that in relation to the application to Subdivide Land R5-22S for a proposed residential subdivision located in the RM of Kindersley at NE-33-28-23-W3M, and the Community Planning District of the Government of Saskatchewan’s request that the Council of the Town of Kindersley comment on the application;
That the Council of the Town of Kindersley is not aware of any land or site conditions that would be incompatible with the intended use of the proposed application; and
That the Council of the Town of Kindersley does not have any facilities affected by the proposed development.
8.1: Council resolved to accept as submitted the list of accounts as paid by the Town of Kindersley and in the amount of $359,070.96.
9.1: Town Council resolved to approve the first reading of Bylaw 01-22, Being a Bylaw to Provide for the Care and Control of Animals in the Town of Kindersley.
10.1: The Council of the Town of Kindersley resolved to approve the Consent Agenda which includes the following items for acceptance and filing:
- Letter from Office of the Official Opposition
- Kindersley RCMP Feb 2022 Policing Report
- Kindersley Chamber of Commerce Minutes – Nov 4, 2021 & Jan 13, 2022
Council Highlights – February 28, 2022 Regular Meeting
Town Council held a Regular Meeting on Monday, February 28, 2022. The following agenda items were resolved.
7.1: The Council of the Town of Kindersley provided consent to the Saskatchewan Assessment Management Agency (SAMA) to complete a physical inspection of all properties located within the municipal boundaries of the Town of Kindersley.
8.1: Council resolved to accept as submitted the list of accounts as paid by the Town of Kindersley and in the amount of $403,724.69.
9.1: Town Council resolved to approve the first reading of Bylaw 02-22, Being a Bylaw to regulate zoning in the Town of Kindersley.
10.1: The Council of the Town of Kindersley resolves to approve the Consent Agenda which includes the following items for acceptance and filing:
- WRLI Board Meeting Minutes – Nov. 24, Nov. 25, Dec. 15, 2021 & Jan. 26, 2022
- Kindersley Museum Board Meeting Minutes – Jan. 11 & Feb. 8, 2022
- Kindersley Chamber of Commerce Board Meeting Minutes – Oct. 12, 2021 and Feb. 17, 2022
A Brief History of Kindersley – Written by Ron Baker
Imagine a little over a century ago. A sparsely treed area of Saskatchewan – with no real lakes or resort potential – is opened for settlement. A flood of youth, immigrants and some enterprising entrepreneurs start overland to reach the promised land.
A description by an early homesteader in 1909 suggests that Kindersley was well on the way to becoming a thriving town even before it was incorporated in 1910:
There is a hotel, pool room and a place to pass time
There are places to buy and sell and for playing cards
Houses of all sorts and five lumber yards
There are restaurants where you can eat and sleep
There are now two doctors come to town
The butcher too, he calls around and will your order fill
What comprises the DNA of this energetic prairie town? Perhaps the answer is found in a spirit of pioneering, cooperation, activity, health and compassion.
In 1909, The Canadian National Railway sold lots for Kindersley, creating the core of the community. Over the decades, the community increased in size – pavement was put in by the 1960s. In the 1970s a subdivision was formed called Rosedale. In 2016 the town population was 4,597.
The utilities of a civilized center arose early in Kindersley’s history. Telephone service to Saskatoon was established in 1912. The same year, an electric and water system begun – and the first strike was recorded as those digging trenches rebelled at the reduction in wages of 2.5 cents. Council Highlights – February 14, 2022 Regular Meeting
Town Council held a Regular Meeting on Monday, February 14, 2022. The following agenda items were resolved.
5.2: The Council of the Town of Kindersley resolved to amend the agenda of the February 14, 2022 Regular Meeting of Council.
7.1: Council heard a presentation regarding COVID-19 mandates by Dan Griffith and Mark Davis for informational purposes.
8.1: Town Council authorized Administration to transfer the indicated amounts to the following reserves for projects budgeted in 2021 but not completed:
- Service Roads Reserve: $183, 000.00
- Recreation Reserve: $21, 466.50
9.1: The Council of the Town of Kindersley resolved to accept as submitted the list of accounts as paid by the Town of Kindersley and in the amount of $530, 458.01.
11.1: Council resolved to approve the Consent Agenda which included the following items for acceptance and filing:
- January 2022 RCMP Policing Report
- SaskWater Monthly Report January 2022
