Highlights from September 11, 2017 Council Meeting

Friends of Kinsmen Park representative Tammy Anderson-Jackson attended Council’s September 11 meeting to provide an update on the local non-profit committee’s plan for Kinsmen Park, which includes construction of The Shack. The proposed new building will replace the existing ice shack and will house a concession, heated dressing room, and both heated and unheated storage rooms. Officials Celebrate Sod-Turning for Regional Landfill

Officials of Western Regional Landfill Inc. (WRLI) and its participating municipalities, and Loraas Environmental Services Ltd. gathered west of Kindersley to celebrate the official sod-turning of the new regional landfill project.Loraas has entered into an agreement with WRLI to construct and operate the new landfill, which will replace the existing Kindersley landfill that is nearing the end of its useful life. Construction of Regional Landfill Project Ready to Begin

Officials of the Western Regional Landfill Inc. (WRLI) are celebrating the start of construction for the new regional landfill with a sod-turning ceremony scheduled for 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, August 30, 2017.A total of 18 municipalities throughout west central Saskatchewan are partnering in this regional project at an overall budget of $3.75 million. The Town of Kindersley is the largest of the municipalities and will assume 46 percent ($1,664,996.58) of the total cost. Highlights from August 14, 2017 Council Meeting

Resident Jason Hankewich appeared before Council to discuss the creation of an outdoor basketball court in Elks Park adjacent to the Norman Ritchie Community Centre. Council and Administration both expressed support for the project and a resolution was passed for Administration to work with Hankewich to inform and solicit support from residents in the immediate area and to address any concern prior to construction. The basketball court will be paid for by private donations. Resident Brent Bacon addressed Council to share his concern about the lack of local representation on the Development Appeals Board. Gord Krismer and Associates were appointed to serve as the Town’s current Development Appeals Board in 2015 after attempts to recruit new local members were unsuccessful. Fill the Pool Campaign Launches

Having commemorated the sod-turning for Kindersley’s new indoor aquatic centre on July 5, Council is now set to focus efforts on obtaining sponsorship and donations for the $6.6 million project.The Fill the Pool Campaign will officially launch on Monday, July 10 and will offer a variety of options for businesses and individuals to make financial contributions to the indoor aquatic centre. Construction of New Indoor Aquatic Centre Now Underway

Officials gathered at the site of Kindersley’s new indoor aquatic centre this morning to celebrate the ceremonial turning of sod that signals the start of construction.The 21,000 ft2 facility will boast a Junior Olympics-size 6-lane pool, a 2500 ft2 leisure pool, hot tub, 150 ft waterslide, rock climbing wall, party rooms, and outdoor patio, among other features. Following successful negotiation, Council directed the Mayor and CAO to enter into an agreement with Pro-Bilt Structures Ltd. for the design services and work to construct the new Indoor Aquatic Facility.
